Context :
With 31 million inhabitants (the most populated country in Central Asia), and more than 20 million Uzbeks financially excluded,
Uzbekistan has great potential for financial inclusion. Unlike neighboring countries, there is limited saturation, which translates into
a limited level of over-indebtedness. The microfinance market is still young, with a variety of established MFIs experiencing rapid growth.
THE INSTITUTION:
Delta in Uzbekistan is a Tier 2 microfinance institution established in 2009. Delta provides loans using an individualized methodology, managing a gross loan portfolio of €19 million and serving 28,000 clients (the 5th largest NBFI). Its mission is to provide financial services to the working population to support economic development.
Impact :
Delta's offering is limited to loan products due to regulations. Most loans are for business purposes (75 %). The remainder are consumer loans for housing, education, healthcare, or energy efficiency. Delta is at the forefront of developing unsecured loans.
